2022 sees the return of large-scale festivals after a two-year hiatus. Alongside social media comments and shouts of “Finally!”, we see some reports of slow ticket sales and a wary audience.
What has changed since 2019-2020? Who constitutes today’s audience? We also see a growing trend where multinational corporations partner up with, or outright purchase, big-scale festivals. What are the ramifications? How about those who are still indie – will they make it in a highly competitive field that is still coming to grips with the pandemic and affected by war and inflation.
