Rock and metal have long been scenes dominated by heterosexual cis men, but things are changing and the walls are coming down. This panel brings together artists and industry proffesionals who challenge expectations, break stereotypes, and prove that heavy music is for everyone.

Expect open conversations about identity, representation, and visibility, and about how embracing diversity can create a stronger, more vibrant future for rock and metal.

Panel:

Hennie Johnsen (MÍO) - Non-binary musician and multi-instrumentalist in the folk-rock band MIO. Known for a theatrical, energetic stage presence and for mixing gender expression and genres alike.

Kathrine Shepard (Sylvaine) - Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter behind Sylvaine. A strong female voice in a male-dominated genre, nominated for the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann) in metal for her ethereal and powerful soundscapes.

Leoni Dowidat (Better Noise Music) - Label Manager GSA at Better Noise, formerly A&R at Nuclear Blast, with a background in PR and artist development. Leoni is committed to representation and inclusion within the metal industry, and stands out as a strong young female voice in a male-dominated genre and business.

Matt Rushton (Knotfest) - Producer and content lead at Knotfest, working with documentaries, live programming and partnerships. Former co-host of Hell Bent for Metal, an LGBTQ+ metal podcast nominated for a Heavy Music Award, exploring queer perspectives in the scene.
