Fifteen new artists for by:Larm 2021

2021
Seven weeks until this year’s festival! And with more than fifty names on the poster by:Larm 2021 is starting to take form. With this announcement we give you dark and melancholic pop from Sweden, experimental ambient from Kenya and Berlin, jazzy electronica from London, hard-hitting hip hop from Bergen – Just to name a few!

AIBA

When Aiba was introduced to music production at the age of sixteen, it gave him the ultimate epiphany about what he wanted to pursue. After a few independent releases, he was discovered by the artist management Nora Collective (Unge Ferrari, Arif, Musti), and ever since he’s been developing his sound with some of the hottest producers in the country. When making music he likes to explore and challenge genres such as pop and R&B; typically adorning it with sentimental and catchy overtones.

ALBA AUGUST

An outburst of energy and emotion defines Alba August as an artist. Her dark and melancholy pop takes form beneath the spark of the disco ball and a rain of pink confetti, backed by cold synth and a larger-than-life soundscape.

EDDY & ZINO

Eddy & Zinos lyrical universe is constructed from Norwegian and English colloquialism and exudes a youthful bravado. The inspiration behind their sonic choices derives from various hip hop scenes in the U.K – beefed up with a hint of Gambia in the percussion.

EMILIE ADAMS

Emilie’s songs are brutally beautiful with evocative energy that permeates the lyrics, melodies, beats and production. And even the visual universe that accompanies it. Musically, her reference points include Banks, Lorde, MØ, Lana del Rey and Coldplay.

IMERIKA

IMERIKA debuted as a participant in Melodi Grand Prix (the Norwegian Eurovision), and from the get-go there was no doubt about her command of the stage. She invite sthe listener into a universe of both sorrow and sarcasm, supported by a hefty dose of neon and unbridled vibes.

JADA

Jada swiftly rose to the top as one of the most promising names on the Danish music scene after her Roskilde-debut in 2018. With her personal flair and sonic universe – a universe that breaks with the classic templates, she has captivated both Danish and international music critics.

KMRU

Joseph Kamaru (aka KMRU) is a sound artist and experimental ambient musician, raised in Nairobi, Kenya. Currently based in Berlin, he is a student at Universität der Künste Berlin for sound Studies and Sonic Arts Master’s Program. His works deal with discourses of field recording, improvisation, noise, ambient, machine learning, radio art and expansive hypnotic drones.

KOBE

KOBE’s first introduction to the public mass was as the other half of the hyped Bergen-based hip-hop-duo Sushi x Kobe. KOBE released his Fakethias-produced debut EP Kobes vinter in 2016. For his upcoming album he’s been working with Askjell Solstrand (Sigrid, Aurora, iris). Together they’ve created a record he describes as “a dark and organic yet industrially musical universe”.

LORAINE JAMES

Producer, Hyperdub-signee and radio presenter Loraine James hails from North London and is known for fusioning electronica and EDM with jazzy undertones and ambience all wrapped up in her avant-garde aesthetic.

METTESON

Metteson is the artist whose music you play when your head is leaning against the car window as you’re pretending to be in a music video. In similarity to Robyn, his discography carries a duality in the way that they are the ultimate soundtrack to anyone who is either murdering the dance floor or brooding over having been a wallflower.

MONA MASROUR

Mona Masrour’s debut album Scener is produced by Nisj and features several exciting Swedish rappers like 1.Cuz, Guleed, L1NA and Mazzo. Her delicate melodies and free-spirited R&B project has already earned blessings from leading critics and earned her three Swedish Grammy nominations in the following categories: “Best New Artist”, “Soul/R&B of The Year” and “Songwriter of The Year”.

PRIYA RAGU

Priya’s music isn’t like any R&B you’ve heard before. Imagine Kehlani, Summer Walker or Snoh Aalegra suffused with South Indian instrumentation and you’re in the ballpark of the wonder, the profound magic of Priya’s brilliantly beguiling music. Produced by her brother, Japhna Gold, and written entirely by Priya and her brother, the music is bathed in the sounds of their tail heritage, from stunning Kollywood samples and Krishna mantras to traditional tabla and the Tamil language itself.

SAM EZEH

Between Sam Ezeh’s cinematic videos, magazine editorial-worthy imagery and serene, cosmic sound, it’s easy to see that the 20-year-old is a bonafide star in the making. And people are already taking note; «CRISIS» the songwriter, singer and producer’s debut single, has racked up four million streams and counting. It’s a cross-pollination of dreamy 70s psychedelia and funk-inspired vocal runs.

VICTORIA NADINE

21 year old Victoria Nadine is a promising Norwegian artist whose latest tracks have all entered the Spotify’s Top 50 list multiple times over the past year. She broke through with her song “Be Okay” and has already racked up millions of streams this year alone with the singles “Happy I’m Sad” and “History” as well.

WU-LU

South London’s Wu-Lu is refreshingly straddling seemingly disparate worlds of music like no other. Having spent years experimenting with lo-fi, psychedelic guitar and off-kilter hip-hop, the multi-hyphenate has since been slowly nurturing a new sound, one that brazenly stands amongst the new gen of the underground punk/alternative hip-hop scene.
